Tasting Reviews

2026-01 Bob D.

The first member to succumb to the use of AI, Bob got the Head Noser to ask Co-Pilot to review our tastings to date, find some new options for us, and fall within his price point and preferred style of whisky.

If that was not enough to ask, the Head Noser had to tag along on the buying spree as well. The sacrifices we make…

Round 1: Aberfeldy 12 Year Old

Cost: $70 CDNRegion: HIghland

Fun Facts:

  • A fun fact that gives Aberfeldy 12 a bit of mythic charm is that it’s often called “The Golden Dram” because the distillery’s water source, the Pitilie Burn, actually contains microscopic flakes of alluvial gold. This isn’t marketing fluff — the burn has long been known for trace gold deposits, and that heritage became part of Aberfeldy’s identity.

Round 2: The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak

Cost: $175 CDNRegion: Highland

Fun Facts:

  • A fun detail about The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak is that it’s one of the few widely available single malts whose deep mahogany colour is entirely natural, coming only from sherry‑seasoned European oak casks rather than any added caramel colouring.

Bonus Round: Glenfarclas 15 Year Old

Cost: $178 CDNRegion: Speyside

Fun Facts:

  • A fun and very “Glenfarclas” fact about the Glenfarclas 15 Year Old is that it’s bottled at 46% ABV specifically because that’s the strength preferred by the Grant family, who have owned the distillery since 1865. This makes it one of the few core‑range Scotch whiskies whose bottling strength is chosen for family taste rather than marketing or mass‑market convention
