Tasting Reviews

2025-11 – Malcolm A.

Malcolm knocked it out of the park again, with his “imports” from Alberta where the cattle roam and the scotch is (a bit) less dear. Great bottles and a fine feast (we know he had help). Stunning conversation, a late night and not much left of the preferred one.

Round 2: The Macallan – Double Cask

Cost: $104 CDNRegion: Highland

Fun Facts:

  • One of the coolest Macallan facts: the distillery’s stills are so tiny that they’ve become part of its identity — they’re literally called the “Curiously Small Stills,” and every dent in them is considered essential to the flavor.

NSC Comments:

  • Colour: Mahogany to Copper
  • Nose: Floral, Spicy,
  • Palate: Fruity, Creamy, Oily, Pepper, Smooth, Chocolate, Citrus, Nutty, Floral, Spicy

  • Notes: Terrific – Complex but not complicated
  • It’s a Macallan, what else do we need to know?

Bonus Round: Clynelish

Cost: $110 CDNRegion: Highland

Fun Facts:

  • Clynelish is legendary for its waxy, slightly oily texture, a hallmark that whisky geeks chase.
  • Despite being a cult favourite among single‑malt fans, most of Clynelish’s production goes into Johnnie Walker blends, especially Gold.

NSC Comments:

  • Colour: Gold
  • Nose: Fruity, Floral, Nutty
  • Palate: Oily, Creamy, Fruity, Spicy, Waxy, Citrus, some Sulphur

  • Even better with water, creamier, longer finish
  • So, so good
