A great evening on the deck at Philip’s. The man brought out the gold standard, the yardstick of the Club as the first round so that we could all remember it, and have a fresh taste of it to compare the others to.

And he finished with his weakness – no way was he passed by a bottle referring to “ice cream”.

Round 1: Glenmorangie 12 Year Old – The Original

Fun Facts:

  • The water comes from the Tarlogie springs about a mile from the distillery, flows though lime and sandstone and is hard

NSC Comments:

  • Colour: Copper to Honey
  • Nose: Fruity, Floral, Woody, some Citrus
  • Palate: Smooth, Creamy, Fruity, Citrus,
  • Finish: Short
  • Drinkability: 6.0,6.8,6.5,6.5,6.0,6.0,6.0
  • Notes: Value for money – excellent

Round 2: Tomatin 12 Year Old Bourbon & Sherry Casks

Cost: $99 CDNRegion: Highland

Fun Facts:

  • The first Scottish distillery to be wholly-owned by a Japanese company.

NSC Comments:

  • Colour: Copper
  • Nose: Spicy, Fruity, Floral
  • Palate: Spicy, Citrus, Smooth, Oily, some pepper
  • Finish: Long, with a slow fade
  • Drinkability: 7.0,7.6,7.0,6.8,6.6,6.8,6.5
  • Notes: Water mellows it

Bonus Round: Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream

  • It’s freaking ice cream, nothing more needs to be said!
