Round 1: Royal Lochnagar

Cost: $116 CDNRegion: Highland

Fun Facts:

  • This 12 year old was distillery at the Lochnagar distillery, once visited by Queen Victoria when she was staying at nearby Balmoral.

NSC Comments:

  • Colour: Amber to Gold
  • Nose: Fruity, Toffee, Floral, Fruity, Light
  • Palate: Smooth, Coffee, Creamy
  • Finish: Honey, Long,
  • Sweet summer dram, very enjoyable
  • Buyable!
  • Drinkability: 8,6.5,7,7,7.4

Round 2: The Glen Allachie

Cost: $110 CDNRegion: Speyside

Fun Facts:

  • Features whisky matured in Pedro Ximénez, oloroso and virgin oak casks, resulting in a huge flavour profile of fruit, oak and vanilla.

NSC Comments:

  • Colour: Mahogany
  • Nose: Sherry/Port almost,
  • Palate: Fruity, Creamy, Oily, Spice
  • Finish: Long
  • Quite strange, weird one
  • Water changes everything, more creamy, less bite
  • Wasn’t fond of the finish,
  • Drinkability: 5.1,6.2,6,7.2

Fun Facts:

  • This punchy expression is named after the mystical peat bog western side of the island – which is fitting, considering the plentiful peat notes running throughout. Almost like it was planned…

  • Colour: Straw to White Wine
  • Nose: Citrus, Fruity, Spice
  • Palate: Oily, Sweet, Fruit
  • Finish: Pepper, Long,
  • Water is a great necessity.
