Round 1: Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old

Fun Facts:

  • The highest distillery in Scotland, midway between Perth and Inverness and situated at 326m/1073ft. It is in a glen with the Monadhlaith Mountains on the one side, the Forest of Atholl, the Cairngorms and the Grampians to the other. Dalwhinnie is Gaelic for “meeting place” and the village stands at the junction of old cattle-droving routes from the west and north down to the markets of Crieff and Falkirk in the Central Lowlands.

NSC Comments:

  • Excellent nose
  • Sweet smell with sweet start that fades nicely
  • Not a long finish no matter what MoM says
  • Very drinkable
  • A bit creamy
  • Nice color
  • Vanilla ‘er

Bonus Round: Alit-a-Bhainne

Fun Facts:

  • Allt-a-Bhainne (pronounced “Alt-a-Bane”) distillery was built in 1975 and was the fourth distillery to be built by Chivas Brothers (Seagram). It is on the northern slopes of Ben Rinnes and was built and equipped to a modern design. It has a capacity of 4.5 million litres/one million gallons per annum yet only requires a staff of nine. Allt a Bhainne means “Burn of milk” in Gaelic

  • Nice color
  • Not much on the nose
  • A weak taste until you add water
  • Water adds to the taste not takes away from it
