Round 1: Scapa 2005 G&M Distillery Labels

Cost: $130 CDNRegion: Orkney Isles

Fun Facts:

  • Hand carried by son Daniel from Scotland while on his honeymoon specifically for our Scotch Club enjoyment. Cannot be found in Canada.

NSC Comments:

  • Light color, stronger nose than the color would indicate
  • Creamy, sweet, berry nose
  • Not much different with water no need for it
  • A terrific after diner drink
  • Flavour delightful disappears quickly no burn
  • Well, thanks Chris for a great scotch you cannot buy in Canada, what are we supposed to do about that?

Round 2: Macaloney’s TWA Cask Series 5 Year Old

Cost: $105 CDNRegion: Canada (sort of)

Fun Facts:

  • A select blend of two cask vattings distilled at Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain ….matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in re-toasted red wine barrels.
  • Bottled in Victoria BC, but the scotch is from Scotland

NSC Comments:

  • Smoke nose, strong
  • Strong taste, complex, very complex
  • Smoke lasts all the way down the throat but doesn’t have a burn so much as a scratch
  • First touch on the tongue is pepper
  • You can add water but it doesn’t need it
  • Not simple, Smoke at the end, Smooth smoke
  • The whole club believes further investigation is required, perhaps a road trip…
